INT223 A & B
INT 223A "Learning and Teaching with Digital Media"

(offered every other year)

INT 223A is the first course in a two-quarter sequence offered in the Winter Quarter of even numbered years only. It is a prerequisite for INT 223B, which will be offered in Spring Quarter of even numbered years.

In INT 223A, we will discuss theories of learning and teaching with new media, in particular, those with a cognitive approach. We will present some of the technological tools that can be used for developing instructional materials in the computer lab for hands-on use of the software. Students will read articles on learning with media, the authoring process, instructional design, and evaluation methods. Each student will lead one class discussion on an article or chapter of his/her choice, either face-to-face during a class meeting or virtually (on-line). In addition, each student will identify and critique an existing instructional website in his/her field. The critique will be presented orally to the class and written up (either on-line or in a traditional paper). Students will also outline and begin to design an instructional module in their field. Implementation of these modules will be carried out in the Spring Quarter.
