There are between seven and eight hundred teaching assistants (TAs) at UCSB each academic year, and it's estimated that they are involved in teaching one-third to one-half of all undergraduate courses. Although the TA role, workload, duties, and supervision vary among departments and courses, the University does have general guidelines regarding TA responsibilities and TA supervision. In this section you will find basic definitions and policies for all TAs and their supervisors, some suggestions for aligning faculty and TA expectations, and a framework for TA supervision and mentoring.
